Villa Safety

The safety of guests at our Villas is a priority and we have made every effort to ensure that they are all as safe and as child friendly as possible. However while we are very happy to offer advice and discuss any particular needs you have, ultimately guests are responsible for their own safety and care while on holiday so we ask that you are aware of this and take all appropriate precautions.
Some of our holidays are specifically aimed at families and we do make sure that reasonable care has been taken to address any potential safety matters inside the properties or within their grounds, some villas will be better suited than others if you have a young family or a person in your group that is less mobile, so we advise you to fully investigate this before you book. Of course if you are unsure whether a Villa is suitable for your group’s needs we are on hand to answer any questions you might have. Our dedicated reservation team are here for you so please feel free to give us a call on +44 160 883 0163 and we will happily discuss your queries or concerns.
Similarly if you have any concerns about the safety of your Villa on arrival or during your stay, please contact your Villa Representative immediately. We will endeavour to deal with any problems as quickly as we can.

Swimming Pools

The swimming pool is a key part of enjoying a holiday for many people. We do ask however that you use the pool sensibly and make sure that all proper precautions are taken and common sense is used. Children should be supervised, care when walking around the pool should be taken, and looking out for any hazards that might trip or slip you up such as drain areas is also advisable. We ask you not to dive into the pools, and not to swim if you have been drinking alcohol or have eaten a heavy meal. If you notice that you cannot see the bottom of the pool please call your Villa Representative –do not get in the pool as there may be a reason for this which must be investigated. Please take care to shower before getting into the pool and dry your ears thoroughly after your swim to prevent ear infections. We also ask that you do not bring glass near the pool or try to adjust any of the settings such as the pool pumps or filters –if you think something needs adjusting please contact your Villa Representative and they will look into this for you.
Please note that the pool sizes in our descriptions for guidance only. If you would like to know the depth of the pool please call us on +44 160 883 0163
Salt water filtration systems have become increasingly popular so please note that your pool may have salt water instead of chlorine.

Swimming pool water/ Colour Effect

Please be aware that chlorine can affect your swimsuit and any other fabrics. Chlorine has also been known to tint the hair, particularly blonde hair. We ask that you are aware that Solivillas cannot take any responsibility for any damage to guests property or hair as our priority is to ensure the pool is safe and hygienic to use.

Glass windows and doors

In a new environment, as well as with the excitement of being on holiday, accidents can occur more easily than they can do so at home, particularly with younger children. We ask you to please be aware of glass windows and doors and use them safely.

Security

Please make sure you lock windows and doors when you leave the property, or even if you are relaxing by the pool. We cannot take any responsibility or offer any compensation for theft of belongings or crime against properties during your stay. In the unlikely instance that this happens please inform the police and your Villa Representative.

General Safety while on Holiday

Glass

Glass and patio doors are in abundance in Spain and it can be difficult to see if the doors are open or closed. Many of the patio windows have stickers on them to help identify if they are opened or closed - please take care. Glass fitted is not necessarily safety glass. Do not take glass around the swimming pools.

Electrics

Do not touch any electrical appliances with wet hands or when wearing wet clothing. Please report any electrical faults to us as soon as possible.

Fire Safety

Upon arrival familiarise yourself with your accommodation. In the event of a fire, remain calm and exit your accommodation via the nearest exit. Do not stop to collect any items.

Insects and Pests

Occasionally you may see ants or other insects in or around your property. This is normal in the Spanish climate but they can be kept at bay by clearing food away and sweeping away crumbs after eating. If needed there are ant/insect sprays and powders which are very effective. If you do notice a problem please let us or the property manager know ASAP so that we can give the correct advice. Mosquitoes should be kept at bay with a repellent (please take advice from the pharmacist)

Baby Equipment

Check the baby equipment before use and ensure it is safe and fit for its purpose. Cots and high chairs should be free from any sharp edges. If the cot is wooden, check that all vertical bars are not more than 10cm apart. Make sure that the mattress fits snugly to the base. The adjustable sides should be high enough so infants cannot climb over them. High chairs should be of a sturdy construction and clean and also have a safety harness attached to the chair. Travel cots should be clean and sturdy.

Balconies

Please do not leave your children unattended on balconies. Keep all balcony furniture well away from railings, so as not to encourage them to climb, be vigilant in watching your children.

Tap Water

The tap water is clean and safe in most parts of Spain however the chemicals in it may cause upset tummies as you are not used to them - we would therefore recommend that you use only bottled water for drinking. The ice is safe as by law it has to be bought in and cannot be made on the bar /restaurant premises.

Crime

Take a few simple precautions to keep your valuables safe. Keep valuables out of sight or keep them on you. Please make sure that you keep the property completely locked when you are out and use all security features available. When you leave the car take all your valuables with you and lock the car doors and windows.

Road Travel

Driving is on the right. Driving rules and customs are different from those in the UK and the accident rate is higher, especially on motorways. You must carry two red warning triangles which should be placed, in the event of an accident or breakdown, in front of and behind the vehicle. You must have a spare pair of glasses (if needed for driving), a spare wheel, and a full set of spare light bulbs plus the tools to change them. If at any time you have to leave your vehicle due to an accident or breakdown or while waiting for the arrival of the emergency services, you must wear a reflective jacket or you may face a heavy fine. UK provisional licences are not valid for driving in Spain.

Carry a certificate of insurance in case you’re stopped. If you are using UK insurance, always carry your certificate with you. Remember that this certificate is generally only valid for a stay of less than three months - contact your insurer if you are staying longer.

Spain has strict drink driving laws. Penalties include heavy fines, loss of licence and imprisonment.

Seat belts are required for all passengers in the front and back seats. No children under the age of 12 should be in the front seat and small children must be in an approved child safety seat in the back seat. Your car hire agency will be able to provide a seat so let them know if you need one when you reserve the car.

Talking on a mobile phone when driving is forbidden -even if you have pulled over to the side of the road. You must be completely away from the road if you wish to make a call. Using an earpiece is also prohibited however you are allowed to use you phone while driving with a completely hands-free unit.
